FAQ
What is the Climate Transparency Platform?
The Climate Transparency Platform is an online platform that aims to provide comprehensive information on climate transparency efforts by countries and support organisations around the world, covering everything related to the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement and the continued reporting under the UNFCCC. It serves as a one-stop shop for sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices related to climate transparency.
Who is behind the Climate Transparency Platform?
The Climate Transparency Platform is a collaborative effort involving various organizations and partners. The wider transparency community has an integral role in building and improving the Platform. This shared responsibility is the key to ensuring an active community and keeping information up-to-date at all times.
What is the purpose of the Climate Transparency Platform?
The purpose of the Climate Transparency Platform is to promote transparency and accountability in climate action worldwide. It aims to facilitate the exchange of information, provide a space for collaboration, and support transparency-related efforts for governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders involved in climate action.
The platform also serves as a space for coordination among transparency support providers, and for countries to directly request support to cover specific needs for transparency in all areas of the Enhanced Transparency Framework.
What is the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF)?
The enhanced transparency framework under the Paris Agreement is an accountability mechanism that aims to promote implementation of national climate action plans (Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs) and the flow of support for climate action.
It is an important tool to assess the progress that Parties make in implementing and achieving their NDCs, which are crucial for global efforts to achieve the 1.5 °C Paris goal.
The new transparency system represents one common system for all Parties, that is more rigorous and standardizes the information to be reported by Parties.
This will help improve the quality of information and ensure comparability of data amongst Parties, which in turn help build trust.
How do I request support from the support providers participating in the Climate Transparency Platform?
The Climate Transparency Platform facilitates access to support aimed at assisting countries and stakeholders in their climate transparency efforts. Users can submit a request for support through the platform by providing details about their needs and requirements. The platform then connects them with relevant support providers who can offer guidance, technical assistance, and capacity-building services.
Information about support can also be accessed directly through the various agency pages. Each agency page has a section explaining the support offered and how it can be accessed.
What are Transparency Networks?
The Transparency Networks are the key support modality of the CBIT-GSP project through which support is provided to countries. The network activities include regional trainings, experience-sharing webinars, virtual workshops and direct technical support activities to countries based on their priorities and needs. These networks bring together experts, practitioners, and policymakers working in specific regions or on specific topics related to climate transparency. They provide a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and peer learning, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and impact of climate transparency initiatives. The networks are coordinated through dedicated Network Coordinators, who act as the primary focal points for the countries in their networks and facilitate the support.
