Background

The CBIT-GSP, GGGI, CGE, UNFCCC Secretariat and the Egypt Government are organising the annual Training Workshop for the MENA Network on Linkage between NDC and BTR: Focus on NDC tracking, projection tools and Article 6 Reporting. This annual training workshop will be held from the 13th to the 16th of October in Cairo, Egypt and will have the participation of experts from across the CBIT-GSP project team and Partner Agencies.

The main objective of the training workshop is to support the country’s practitioners and experts supporting BTR development processes in understanding the linkage between NDCs and BTRs, with a focus on NDC tracking, projection tools and Article 6 Reporting. Specific objectives of the training include the following:

  • Provide national teams with useful information and international experiences that link NDC and BTR Processes, including the application of Decision 4/CMA.1 (ICTU and accounting approaches).
  • Practice with concrete examples of mitigation assessments and considerations for prioritizing climate actions for NDC 3.0
  • Provide national teams with useful information and opportunities for reporting on Article 6 in the BTR.

This regional training will be developed through 3 consecutive stages: Stage I will be an initial introductory webinar that will set the approach and provide instructions to the participants for the subsequent stages of the training workshop. This will be followed by Stage II, an in-person, face-to-face event that will offer hands-on experience through practical exercises and presentations. Finally, the follow-up phase, Stage III, is aimed at providing feedback to the participants on the exercises and results produced by the country representatives during the face-to-face training.

This introductory webinar is the initiation stage of this network training that will be conducted in support of the Climate Transparency Network and will feature speakers from the organising team who will provide instructions and a summary of the main topics of the in-person workshop.

Through this introductory webinar, this initial stage aims to provide participants with instructions and summarise some of the most relevant content that will be included in greater detail in the face-to-face workshop, which will be held in October 2025.
