Background
In collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), The Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency - Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP) is co-organizing a training aimed at supporting selected African country teams in charge of reporting NDC mitigation commitments under the Paris Agreement in technical understanding of the goals, principles, and actions associated with the reporting process for NDC mitigation commitments under the Paris Agreement. The training will occur from 31 July to 2 August 2024 in Gaborone, Botswana.
This hands-on training is designed to equip the participants with the necessary skills to improve their contributions to the national reporting towards the ETF and information required under the MPGs in preparation for submitting the BTR.
This webinar is the initial stage of a whole training concept to be carried out to support countries belonging to the African Union Member States composed of Anglophone Africa, MENA, Lusophone, and Francophone Regional Transparency Network under the CBIT-GSP project, on key elements identified to fast-track BTR development, specifically on tracking progress in implementing and achieving its NDC under Article 4 of the Paris Agreement.
Objective
The main objective of the introductory webinar is to summarize some of the most relevant content to be included in greater detail in the face-to-face as well as provide instructions to help participants prepare for the other parts of the training workshop.
Audience
This activity is intended for technical officers from African Union Member states who track, and report NDC mitigation commitments and support needed and received. This includes government staff at the national and sectoral levels and staff from other institutions that are part of countries’ institutional arrangements for reporting under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement (BTR). In addition, representatives from the African Regional Economic Communities (RECs) will participate to the training.
