This paper aims to provide assistance to countries in their selection of National Determined Contribution (NDC) -related indicators for their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs). By introducing the concept of SMART indicators, the paper lays the groundwork for understanding their significance. It takes a thorough approach by presenting a range of potential indicators, specifically tailored to commonly employed NDC targets encompassing both mitigation and adaptation efforts. With a practical stance, the paper offers a step-by-step approach for identifying and compiling indicators that align with the specific needs of the country, with the aim of increasing both the effectiveness and ambition of climate targets.
