Availability of relevant information and data, such as greenhouse gas inventory, baseline, projections and assumptions as well as all stakeholders involved, are very important to set up an efficient NDC process and produce a well prepared NDC document.

Many countries have submitted their revised or new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in 2020 and early in 2021. Others are approaching this key milestone ahead of the COP26 in Glasgow, the United Kingdom.

The next round of NDC revision will take place in 2025. Developing and revising NDC requires substantial resources and involves many stakeholders to collect and analyse large data and information, define national mitigation contributions and appropriate measures for adaptation.   The country needs to ensure a transparent and efficient process.

This NDC Handover Checklist helps countries to prepare for the future NDC processes through recording all essential information of their recent NDC process. Using this Checklist countries can collect all relevant information used for the NDC process, such as data and methodology used for mitigation targets and adaptation priorities, access modalities for these data, stakeholders involved, and other key information required.

The interests, priorities and needs of countries vary. In this regard the Checklist is prepared in a format of a flexible template which can be adapted to the context of each country and the type of information to include in the Checklist. National NDC Focal Point, environmental and/or climate change authorities can benefit from using the Checklist to prepare for the next 2025 NDC revision.
