Background
The recent decisions of COPs under the UNFCCC advise the Parties to integrate gender into climate policy and undertake proactive measures to account gender aspects in climate reporting and assure that gender is adequately reflected in MRV. At COP-25 Parties agreed a 5-year enhanced Lima work programme on gender and its gender action plan (Decision 3/CP.25). At COP-26 Parties adopted the Decision 20/CP.26 which includes among other, aspects of the review of the Gender Action Plan implementation. At COP-27 Parties concluded the intermediate review of the implementation of the gender action plan that started at SB-56 in June 2022. The review included amendments to some deliverables and three new activities in priority areas C and E (Decision 24/CP.27).
The topic of gender mainstreaming into transparency and climate reporting is becoming very relevant and seriously attract attention of the experts and policy makers in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Having in mind that the countries of the region collected many good practices on mainstreaming gender in climate reporting, the CBIT-GSP project intends to organize a virtual webinar with the aim to share the national practices and experiences and discuss the best way of integrating or accounting gender in their national policies and reports.
The Kyrgyz Republic approached the CBIT-GSP with the request to organize an exchange of experience webinar with the Russian-speaking countries, which have already appointed the National Focal Point on Gender and Climate Change under the UNFCCC. At the moment, there are two countries which did this: Armenia and Kazakhstan. However, Kazakhstan is pursuing the re-structuring process and needs to re-activate the gender mainstreaming activities at the ministerial level, Armenia is the only country which has the capacity to share.
Objective
The main objective of the virtual webinar is to support knowledge sharing on the integration of gender into climate policy and reporting by introducing practical examples from Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. The participants will have an opportunity to share their progress on gender and climate change status as well as to discuss the challenges and opportunities towards a more transparent and sustainable way of data collection and reporting on gender and climate change.
Target Audience and Language
The virtual webinar will gather Coordinators of National Communications and Biennial Transparency Reports, senior experts from the national agencies dealing with gender and climate policy, adaptation and mitigation actions and MRV/ETF. The webinar will be held in Russian.
