The main objective of the requested support is to improve the quality of the GHG Inventory for “Energy” Sector and enhance the Party’s reporting transparency, as well as to reduce technical errors and capacitate the local experts on emission estimations in the given sub-categories “Fugitive Emissions” and “Transport”.

Kazakhstan reports as Annex I Party and has to annually submit its NIR to the UNFCCC Secretariat. Based on the in-country review and ICA in the previous years, Kazakhstan received a series of comments and suggestions on improvement its GHG Inventory. Since the “Fugitive Emissions” and “Transport” sub-categories of the Energy Sector obtained numerous suggestions for improvement, the GHG Inventory Department of JSC “Zhasyl Damu” made its best to address them in the current inventory process. However, the experts requested support from the CBIT-GSP project in reviewing the estimations for these particular sub-categories to avoid errors, and assure credibility of the provided data and outputs.

The NIR report, which was refined based on the recommendations for the Energy Sector (Fugitive Emissions and Transport) is available here: https://unfccc.int/documents/627844
