Background
The Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) under the Paris Agreement is aimed at strengthening the institutional and technical capacity of developing countries to conform to the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements of the Paris Agreement. Several countries are currently implementing the first phase of the GEF funded CBIT projects through UNEP and other entities. The projects focus on various outputs, all aimed at strengthening the capacity to report to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement and inform individual policies as well as Nationally Determined Contributions and are at various stages of implementation.
Lebanon have request support regarding initiating the process for the second phase of CBIT at the national level. Uganda, at present, is the first country in the African region to have started on their second phase of the CBIT project, with this being under implementation. To respond to Lebanon’s request for support in this area, an experiencing sharing webinar between Lebanon and Uganda on Uganda’s experience to date with the implementation of CBIT-Phase II and the processes undertaken, is proposed in this concept note.
Experience sharing activities offer a highly effective approach to enhancing skills, knowledge sharing and collaboration. They offer the opportunity, in projects, for more effective collaboration and communication, providing space for ideas sharing, diverse perspectives, innovation and creativity; all of which will enable and strengthen a countries own skill and capacity. Through experience sharing on their experience to date in the CBIT-Phase II, Uganda will aid Lebanon and provide key information which will aid Lebanon in enhancing their own transparency and reporting activities. This experience sharing webinar will further facilitate South-by-South learning for the CBIT-GSP.
To this end, a virtual webinar titled “Inspiring Lebanon’s CBIT II Journey: Experience sharing on the implementation of CBIT Phase II project from Uganda” has been organised. The webinar will be held on Tuesday, 20 February 2025, at 11:00 AM GMT (14:00 Lebanon’s and Uganda’s Time).
