Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement (PATPA) hosts a Regional Workshop for Anglophone Africa
Background
The ETF entered into full force in 2024, and Parties to the Paris Agreement were required to submit their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) by 31 December 2024 – in accordance with the modalities, procedures, and guidelines (MPGs) of the ETF.
To date, nine Anglophone African countries were able to meet the 2024 deadline for the submission of the first BTR. The new reporting requirements under the ETF required countries to adapt and have brought new challenges that countries must address.
Against this background, the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement (PATPA) will host a regional workshop for countries within the Anglophone African Regional Group to share their experiences on the preparation and submission of their first BTRs and foster mutual learning to continuously build reporting capacities over time. Countries at the workshop will represent a mixture of those that have submitted a BTR recently and countries that are aiming to submit soon, providing an enabling environment to learn from each other.
Objective of the workshop
The regional workshop aims to facilitate discussions among countries on the experiences with the ETF reporting requirements, the process undergone in developing the first BTR, and the preparation for the Technical Expert Review (TER) by looking at common challenges and lessons learned. Furthermore, by taking a closer look at the information reported by countries on NDC implementation in their BTRs, the workshop addresses the linkages between the BTR and the development of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event builds on previous regional workshops to ensure continuity and expand upon previously discussed topics.
