Background
In 2023, the CBIT-GSP Transparency Network for Asia hosted a variety of events focused on capacity-building for transparency. These events included regional and country-based training and learning sessions, webinars, and exchange meetings. As the 2023 annual work plan draws to a close, it is important to reflect on the key results and achievements. This is an opportunity for countries to provide feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of the Network activities and if and how they have assisted countries in improving their reporting process under the Paris Agreement. Additionally, it is valuable to consider the lessons learned from the support provided by CBIT-GSP and the collaboration with other partner organizations. This Network Meeting will serve to discuss and prioritize the activities that will be implemented in the crucial year of 2024. Additionally, it is essential to engage in discussions regarding the areas of support that are aligned with the current needs of Asian countries.
The year 2024 represents an important year for the ETF with the submission deadline for the first BTRs by latest December 2024. Countries are stepping therefore into the active phase of reporting on their GHG Inventory, NDC Progress Tracking, Adaptation and Loss & Damage as well as Support Needed and Received. CBIT-GSP will support the countries in this important process by capacitating the national experts on key reporting areas of the BTR.
Objective
The primary goal of the meeting is to provide a space for countries to openly discuss and assess the activities undertaken in 2023 in the Asia Transparency Network. Additionally, the meeting will involve a discussion on the future activities and support in the Asia Transparency Network in 2024.
The network members are expected to discuss and share their experiences and lessons learned from the CBIT-GSP support. They will also provide feedback on its effectiveness and suggest areas for improvement. Additionally, they will discuss the support that will be needed for 2024.
